Zhejiang University (ZJU) is one of China’s top higher education institutions, as well as one of its oldest. Located in Hangzhou, one of China’s most picturesque cities, the University is organized across seven faculties and 36 schools. ZJU has over 53,000 students, over 53% of whom are postgraduate students. The University currently ranks among the top three on Chinese mainland and within the top 100 in the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings and QS World University Rankings. 


The College of Media and International Culture at Zhejiang University was established in 2006. Its Department of Journalism, founded in 1958, is one of the earliest journalism education departments in China. According to the 2020 QS World University Ranking, the College is ranked among the top 150 globally and top 4 on Chinese mainland for Communication and Media Studies. The College seeks applicants for the following positions.


1. Areas

We are interested in faculty candidates who have expertise in one or more of the following areas:journalism, communication, radio and television art, film studies, advertising, public relations, aesthetics, cultural studies, data science, linguistics, teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and other related interdisciplinary studies.


2. Full-time Positions


2.1 Leading Professor

Responsibilities:

Candidates should have an international reputation, high energy, enthusiasm, and vision to build and lead faculty teams. Candidates should be able to teach courses for both undergraduates and graduates, maintain an active research agenda, produce world class research outputs, and acquire competitive external funding.


Qualifications:

Candidates must have a PhD degree in above mentioned areas, hold a position of Professor, have a solid track record of research publications in reputable communication and/or other social science journals, and under the age of 60. Those who are ethnically non-Chinese are particularly encouraged to apply.


Remuneration:

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits package, including housing subsidy and start-up fund, will be offered.


2.2 Professor

Responsibilities:

Candidates should have a national/international reputation, high energy, enthusiasm, and vision to advance an academic field. Candidates should be able to teach courses for both undergraduates and graduates, maintain an active research agenda, produce quality research outputs, and acquire competitive external funding.


Qualifications:

Candidates must have a PhD degree in above mentioned areas, hold a position of senior Associate Professor or higher rank in a prestigious foreign university, have a solid track record of research publications in reputable communication and/or other social science journals. Those who are ethnically non-Chinese are particularly encouraged to apply.


Remuneration:

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits package, including housing subsidy and start-up fund, will be offered.


2.3 Associate Professor

Responsibilities:

Candidates should have a national/international reputation, high energy, enthusiasm, and vision to advance an academic field. Candidates should be able to teach courses for both undergraduates and graduates, maintain an active research agenda, produce quality research outputs, and acquire competitive external funding.


Qualifications:

Candidates must have a PhD degree in above mentioned areas, hold a position of Associate Professor in a prestigious foreign university, have a solid track record of research publications in reputable communication and/or other social science journals. Those who are ethnically non-Chinese are particularly encouraged to apply.

2.4 Talent 100 Scheme Type A Tenure-track Assistant Professor

Responsibilities:

Candidates should be able to teach courses for both undergraduates and graduates, maintain an active research agenda, produce quality research outputs, and acquire competitive external funding. Type A position need to be promoted to tenured Associate Professor or to tenured Professor directly within three years.


Qualifications:

Candidates must have a PhD degree in above mentioned areas, hold a position of Assistant Professor and passed the mid-term tenure review, have a solid track record of research publications in reputable communication and/or other social science journals, and under the age of 40. Those who are ethnically non-Chinese are particularly encouraged to apply.


Remuneration:

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits package, including housing subsidy and start-up fund, will be offered.


2.5 Talent 100 Scheme Type B Tenure-track Assistant Professor

Responsibilities:

Candidates should be able to teach courses for both undergraduates and graduates, maintain an active research agenda, produce quality research outputs, and acquire competitive external funding. Type B position need to be promoted to tenured Associate Professor within six years.


Qualifications:

Candidates must have a PhD degree in above mentioned areas, hold a post-doc position or a position of Assistant Professor before the mid-term tenure review, have a proven or strongly emerging track record of high quality research publications, and under the age of 35. Those who are ethnically non-Chinese are particularly encouraged to apply.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits package, including housing subsidy and start-up fund, will be offered.


3. Non-Full-time Positions


Visiting Foreign Professor/Associate Professor


Responsibilities:

Candidates should be able to work at ZJU for at least 2 months every year, teach a course for either undergraduates or graduates in English.


Qualifications:

Candidates must have a PhD degree in above mentioned areas, hold a corresponding position, have a strong teaching record in related areas, and under the age of 60. Only non-Chinese foreign scholars can apply.


Remuneration:

Salary will be paid according to the actual work time at ZJU.
