The 2020 China New Media Communication Association (CNMCA) Annual Conference recently concluded in Jinan. Several members of the College of Media and International Culture (CMIC) were awarded the Best Paper Award and Best Student Paper Award. The recipients were Associate Professor Yusi Liu, Pan He and Li Jiarui.

According to the organizer, out of 255 submitted papers, only 27% were selected into the final assessment. Winners from the CMIC accounted for a quarter of the total number of winners.

Associate Professor Yusi Liu and Pan He’s paper “When we talk about “theory”, what are we actually talking about? Reflecting on “Theoretical Contributions” and “Metatheory” in the Era of Technology-Mediated Communication” proposes that there may be a nonlinear relationship between the development of communication technology and theoretical increment. Li Jiarui’s paper “Media Contact and Government Reliability in Major Public Health Incidents: The Intermediary Effects of Professional Institutions and Community Reliance” explored the relationship between public media contact and government reliability in the early stage of China’s COVID-19 outbreak.
