2021 Cross-cultural Communication Training Camp with NCSU successfully completed

HANGZHOU—From February 1 to 26, 2021, the Online Cross-cultural Communication Training Camp co-organized by the College of Media and International Culture (CMIC) of Zhejiang University and North Carolina State University was successfully held.


The camp aimed to equip students with communication strategies in cross-cultural contexts, cutting-edge arguments of cross-cultural communication under the trend of globalization, and cross-cultural communication methods for teamwork, decision-making, leadership, and conflict management. 55 undergraduate students from the CMIC, together with undergraduates from all over the world including the UK, France, Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina, attended this camp which consisted of four parts: online discussion, independent study, self-reflection, and group projects.


Ms. Becky Cibulskis, the lecturer of this training camp, began by giving a lecture on "Foundations for Developing Cultural Competence". The following session then focused on “Developing Cultural Knowledge” by explaining the importance of understanding cultural knowledge based on examples of various characteristics of American culture. In the final session, the students analyzed and solved case studies assigned by Ms. Cibulskis and shared their cultural perspectives. Having participated in this training camp, students felt that they had gained useful insights for their future cross-cultural communications.
