Professor Fang Xingdong served as an expert of UNESCO Information Ethics Working Group

Professor Fang Xingdong, Distinguished Professor of Zhejiang University and Director of Wuzhen  Digital Civilization Research Institute, recently joined the Information Ethics Working Group of the Intergovernmental Information for All Programme (IFAP) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), becoming the first expert from China to join the group. Professor Fang's membership reflects the importance and influence of China in the study of ethical issues in the digital age. As a new member of the working group, Prof. Fang Xingdong will work with other international experts to promote research and solutions to ethical issues of information technology and digital development. His participation will help China further participate in the cooperation in the field of global digital governance, and also provide new ideas and perspectives for the research on ethical issues of global digital technology.


List of experts in the Working Group on Information Ethics


Prof. Fang Xingdong, as a leading talent in the liberal arts of Zhejiang University, a professor and doctoral supervisor of the CMIC, and a double-appointed professor of the School of Cyber Science and Technology of Zhejiang University, holds a PhD from Tsinghua University and is a postdoctoral fellow of Zhejiang University and the State Information Center. He is also the Executive Director of the International Communication Research Center of Zhejiang University, the Director of Wuzhen Digital Civilization Research Institute and the Chief Expert of Social Governance Institute of Zhejiang University. As the founder of the Internet Lab and BlogChina, he launched the Global Internet Oral History (OHI) project as well. He has been engaged in Internet research for over 25 years, with his research covering new media, Internet history, digital governance, cyber security and national soft power. He has published more than 100 papers in core journals and 8 full-text reprints by Xinhua Abstract. He has authored 30 related works, such as Cyber Power and IT History, and edited a series of books, such as Oral History of the Internet and Cyberspace Strategy Series. Furthermore, He undertook and completed more than 100 topics related to Internet policy as the first person in charge, and was one of the earliest promoters of the concepts of Internet anti-monopoly, blogging, and digital governance in China.
