A delegation led by Fang Xingdong, Executive Associate Dean of our college, recently conducted a research tour of leading journalism and communication schools in Beijing and Shanghai to explore innovative approaches to media education in the new era. The delegation visited Fudan University's School of Journalism, Shanghai Jiao Tong University-University of Southern California Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry, Renmin University's School of Journalism, Tsinghua University's School of Journalism and Communication, Peking University's School of New Media, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University's School of Media and Communication, with a focus on talent cultivation, curriculum reform, and international collaboration.

At Fudan University's School of Journalism, the delegation examined its 2+X+Y talent cultivation model and dual-degree graduate programs developed in partnership with the University of Missouri and Waseda University. These initiatives complement Zhejiang University's 3+1+1 integrated undergraduate-graduate programs, with both institutions agreeing to explore course sharing and credit recognition.

USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative lndustry showcased its interdisciplinary art+management+technology approach, featuring an industry mentor system and real-world project practice mechanisms that offer new models for industry-academia integration.

The Shanghai Jiaotong university's School of Media and Communication drew attention with its micro-degree programs in intelligent communication and esports, along with its zero-barrier major transfer policy and state-media internship program with dedicated funding support.

Renmin University's School of Journalism presented its innovative experimental class model that cultivates interdisciplinary talent through collaborations with law and international politics programs. Its practice-based credit system and institutionalized industry instructor program sparked particular interest.

Tsinghua University's journalism school highlighted its global research initiatives, having reformed faculty evaluation criteria beyond traditional journal rankings while incorporating student work into teaching portfolios. Its strengths in political communication and health communication align with Zhejiang University's international communication research.

At Peking University's School of New Media, the delegation learned about curriculum reforms that streamline core courses while expanding interdisciplinary electives, including joint programs in international communication and finance that demonstrate forward-looking disciplinary integration.

The research tour facilitated valuable exchanges between our college and peer institutions in Beijing and Shanghai. The innovative practices observed in interdisciplinary education, practice-oriented teaching, and international cooperation provide multidimensional references for our college's ongoing reforms. Moving forward, the college will strengthen collaborative innovation with partner institutions to jointly explore new pathways for journalism and communication education in the new era, with the goal of cultivating globally-minded, interdisciplinary media professionals.
